Star Wars boss Kathleen Kennedy discusses seeing Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen reunited while working together on Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy described what it was like to see Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen come together again on the set of Obi-Wan Kenobi.

In an interview with Empire, the Lucasfilm president discussed the actors reprising their roles as the legendary Jedi master and his former apprentice-turned-enemy. “The thing that was most exciting was being on the set and watching the two of them get excited,” she said. “They hadn’t seen one another in a long time. I was surprised at just how incredibly emotional it was for each of them to find themselves back in these roles, and just realising how important Star Wars was to each of them. It was the beginning of their careers.”

Christensen was announced to join the cast of Kenobi in December 2020, reprising his role as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader. The series will follow Obi-Wan’s time in exile on Tatooine, where a series of events seemingly puts him back in Darth Vader’s sights. Kennedy promised that the series will see the “rematch of the century” between Kenobi and Vader. Newly released concept art from the show depicts the pair dueling on what could be Mustafar, the planet where their previous fight took place.

Vader isn’t the only dark side Force user that Obi-Wan may be facing in the series. Sung Kang has been cast in a mystery role, rumored to be the Fifth Brother, a member of the Jedi-hunting Inquisitorious that debuted in the animated series Star Wars Rebels. Concept art from the series also revealed what appeared to be Trilla Suduri/the Second Sister, a former Jedi padawan-turned-Inquisitor who served as the primary antagonist in the video game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order — although some speculate it’s actually the Fifth Brother’s frequent partner, the Seventh Sister.

After several delays, Kenobi wrapped filming this past August. McGregor was eager to hype up the series, saying, “We finished shooting our series, and it was really, really good fun. I really enjoyed working with [executive producer and director] Deborah Chow, and I think it will not disappoint. The new technology that we employed doing it is cool, and it was a different experience than making the original three films that I did.”

Obi-Wan Kenobi has yet to receive a premiere date, but it’s expected to arrive on Disney+ in 2022.
